The Fire of God

“And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, ‘Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?’ But He turned and rebuked them, and said, ‘You do not know what manner of spirit you are of.’” – Luke 9:54–55 NKJV

Reflection
Not every fire we face is from God. The fire of God purifies, strengthens, and lifts us closer to Him. It burns away impurities, restores holiness, and fills us with hope. It brings life, not death. The enemy’s fire, however, seeks to destroy, discourage, and bring despair. We must discern the source and walk in the Spirit to respond rightly.

Application
  • Discern whether the fire is from God or the enemy.
  • Receive God’s purifying fire with humility.
  • Resist the enemy’s destructive fire with faith.

Connection
Thank You, Lord, for the fire of Your Spirit that purifies and restores. Help me discern what is from You and to resist the schemes of the enemy. Draw me closer to Your holiness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
