Worship to Hear the Word
‘But now bring me a musician.’ Then it happened, when the musician played, that the hand of the Lord came upon him. - 2 Kings 3:15.
Worship is one of our defensive weapons, and enables our offensive weapon, the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, to be sharpened. When we are battled with fiery darts, we need to hear instructions from the Lord. It makes way for divine wisdom to help us in our decisions. Uncertainties in our flesh become certainties in the spirit.
When Elisha sought the Lord for directions for King Jehoshaphat, he asked for a musician. He knew that worship would help him hear the Word with clarity. It is to be the same for us. Worship prepares the way for us to hear the Word, receive it, and obey with surety in our steps. It also facilitates the gifts of the Holy Spirit to flow into those we minister to.
Worship is an attitude of the heart, not just singing a song. It’s a place of union and intimacy with the Lord, where we can learn to know His heart and shut out all other voices: a place of peace and rest where we seek His will and rejoice in His presence. Oh, the joy of worshiping and hearing His Word, from glory to glory!
