Put on the New Man
“… that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness." - Eph. 4:22-24
To put on the new man means to invest in clothing, to sink into a garment. As we put on our divine identity by grace, through faith, we walk in its reality. This reality becomes what we reach for, not the old, which no longer has power or appeal. We put off the old man as we put on the new one. When satan lies to us about who we are, we quickly put on the garments of glory we have in Christ.
As I grew in my understanding of who I was in Christ Jesus, I couldn’t wear my miniskirts, low-cut tops, and tight clothing anymore. They felt like they belonged to someone else and no longer fit. Discovering what fit the new me began an exciting journey. My transformation is still in progress as I learn to put on Christ by faith and yield to my divine identity.
After the fall, Adam and Eve knew they were naked and immediately clothed themselves to hide. In Christ, our lives hide in Him, and He clothes us with His glory. We do not hide behind our humanity but abide in His divinity. We put off shame, guilt, and condemnation; and put on acceptance, forgiveness, freedom, and above all, love, from glory to glory!
