The Little Foxes
Catch us the foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines, for our vines have tender grapes. - Song of Solomon 2:15
It is the little foxes that spoil the vines. We are to catch them as soon as we realize they are appearing. As we care for our vineyards, we become more skilled in watching out for them. We learn to pay attention to the little things that become significant when they should not.
For example, it’s the one little negative word spoken to us that tries to silence the wholesome words expressed. It’s the one little failure that attempts to overshadow successes. It’s one minor flaw in our character that aims to hide positive traits. It’s the one minor disagreement that strives to turn into an offense.
Foxes dig holes in unseen areas. The Lord helps us build protective fences to set proper boundaries. We determine to enforce them by His grace. When we do not keep a boundary, we open the fence to intruders. We maintain our boundaries when we believe in the value and growth of our tender grapes. The little destructive foxes have potential, but in God, His constructive fruit will cause much more and remain forever. Let’s tend to our territory! Order intruders out in Jesus’ name and enjoy our vineyard, from glory to glory!
