Let Us Pursue Peace

“Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation …” - 2 Cor. 5:18

Our ministry of reconciliation calls us to be peacemakers. When disagreements escalate into arguments, it’s a test of our character. Do we react as Jesus would? Does His light still shine through us? How do we maintain our witness in the midst of a heated conversation?

It can be difficult to separate the person from the problem, but it’s necessary in handling conflict. Above all, we place Jesus at the forefront. When we focus on Him, it helps us prioritize the person over the disagreement. During an argument, the person must remain more important than the topic being discussed. We can address the issue, weigh the pros and cons, and analyze the problem without attacking the individual. The person always matters more than the issue at hand.

In Christ, we can agree to disagree because of the love we have for one another. We lay aside our differences when pursuing peace is more important than proving we are right. As we walk in the ministry of reconciliation, we trust in what only God can do. The Holy Spirit alone reveals and teaches truth. Let us pursue peace,  from glory to glory!
