When My Heart Is Overwhelmed

Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. - Ps. 61:1-2.

What should we do in the face of tragedy? When evil roars and fear knocks at our doors, should we strike back? How do we keep anger from turning to rage or guard our hearts from becoming bitter? When trauma pushes us into dark corners, only Jesus can bring us out.

When grief, sorrow, or pain overwhelm us, nothing seems to make sense. Simple daily tasks become difficult, and keeping a routine feels nearly impossible. Yet, in those times of desperation, we cry out to God, pressing through depression and helplessness. The Spirit of Christ stirs us to reach out to the Rock that is higher than we are—Jesus!

Just as a child in trouble looks for someone bigger, we go to the Lord, trusting His strength to lift us above our pain. He takes us higher in Him, where we can see through His eyes of hope, think His thoughts of good and not evil, feel His unfailing love, and rest in His merciful plan. In the darkest times, He truly is the Rock of our salvation, lifting us, from glory to glory!
