Keep On Keeping On

But they sent me this message four times, and I answered them in the same manner. - Neh. 6:4 NKJV
How do we keep on keeping on? Our persistence should be greater than our enemy's. Nehemiah's opponents sent him the same message four times. He responded in the same manner every time. He didn't let the repetitions wear him down. The harassment our adversary, satan, uses is relentless. It should lead us to submit to God with more fervency and resist the devil with consistency.
We see other examples in the Bible where the enemy used this tactic. The giant came forward and presented himself with threats morning and night for forty days. Potiphar's wife tempted Joseph to lie with him day after day. Paul rebuked a spirit out of a girl following them and repeating the same false accolade for many days. Just as these men of God persevered and overcame; so should we, by God's grace.
Instead of diminishing our persistence, these constant attacks empower our perseverance. Patience is to wait for something to happen on its own. Persistence is to pursue a goal with consistency. Perseverance is to maintain that pursuit despite difficult circumstances and constant attacks. The Holy Spirit enables us to keep on keeping on, from glory to glory!
