Staying Focused on the Great Work

that Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come, let us meet together among the villages in the plain of Ono.” But they thought to do me harm. So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?” - Neh. 6:2-3 NKJV.

Nehemiah’s enemies tried to distract him by asking him to meet, but he discerned their harmful intent and refused to leave his work to go down to them. Similarly, we must recognize what attempts to steal our time and take us away from God-given priorities. It’s essential to establish and keep healthy boundaries, refusing to be drawn away from our high place in God.

When we lose sight of the importance of our calling, the adversary can easily divert us from our priorities. Whatever the Lord has led us to do is a “great work.” Whether it’s walking in love, showing patience, caring for others, or doing our tasks with excellence, these acts are as valuable as any pulpit ministry. Our pulpit is wherever we stand, for all that comes from the Lord is significant because He is.

Let’s strive to value who we are and what we do in the Lord. As we grow in valuing God, we also grow in valuing His direction in our lives. By seeking His guidance each day, we can be confident He will lead us with clarity. Our resolve is to please Him above all. With each step, we pray, “Lord, please lead me to know what to do, and what not to do, that You may be glorified”— from glory go glory!
