Recognizing the Voice of the Good Shepherd

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. - John 10:27 NKJV.

Who is speaking? Is it God, satan, others, or ourselves? As we grow in our relationship with the Lord, we become more adept at discerning His voice. We recognize what aligns with His character and what doesn’t. When we ask ourselves, “What would Jesus say?” we can discern whether the voice we’re hearing is leading us to fear or faith, hope or despair.

God’s voice always encourages, edifies, and exhorts. He lifts us up and breathes life into us. The Holy Spirit convicts with love, drawing us closer to the Lord, never pushing us away. In contrast, the enemy’s voice brings condemnation, leading us away from our victorious position in Christ. The enemy tears us down, speaking lies about who God is and who we are.

Jesus, our Good Shepherd, promises that His sheep will know His voice. The challenge is that many other voices compete for our attention, attempting to drown out His. Spending time in God’s Word, worship, and prayer sharpens our ability to distinguish His voice from all others. As we walk by faith, we stay close to the Lord, recognizing the voice of the Good Shepherd and fleeing from a stranger’s voice,  from glory to glory!
