How Long Will It Take?

“Brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing” (James 1:2-4 NKJV).

Like eager children asking, ‘Are we there yet?’ on a car ride to an exciting destination, we often question God about our journey’s progress. Our faith kindles excitement for the promised future, yet impatience can threaten to steal our joy. As we recognize that trials along the way increase our faith, we learn to deal with the bumps on the road.

The back seat of this journey can be uncomfortable, and over time, makes us restless. We fight doubt and weariness when traffic impedes progress. When traffic moves slowly and other cars pass us, we become impatient. When the car breaks down, we combat discouragement and depression.

Patience is about enduring these trials calmly, without anxiety. As James advises, this endurance is crucial for our spiritual maturity. Embracing patience, we can close our eyes in the back seat of life, engage in prayer and worship, and trust in God’s timing, knowing each moment brings us closer to our destination,  from glory to glory!
