Do We Trust the Good Shepherd?

“I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep” (John 10:14-15).

Jesus is our Good Shepherd! Because we are not all knowing like God, we cannot always detect all the dangers, discern wolves in sheep’s clothing, or guard ourselves from unseen enemies. However, we can trust Him to handle the unknown and reveal to us steps of safety to walk in our victory.

A Shepherd, with his rod, defends the sheep against vicious animals. He protects them from unseen dangers and keeps them safe. Even when they wander away into the wrong places and get wounded, he goes after them, finds them, carries them on his shoulders and restores them to health. Jesus does this and so much more. Jesus fulfilled and completed the picture of God as our Shepherd.

Satan sends wolves in sheep’s clothing to deceive the sheep and lead them astray. We can trust that even when we think he succeeded, the Shepherd knows those who are His and will, in His timing, snatch them out of evil’s hands. The Lord leads us, lifts us, and protects us. He gathers the flock and pulls us out of our errors with patience and wisdom. He sees us, hears us and watches over us, from glory to glory!
