Lord, Increase Our Faith

And the apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.’ - Luke 17:5.

When Jesus instructed His disciples to forgive others "seventy times seven" in a single day, their immediate response was, "Increase our faith." They didn’t ask for more love, peace, or power; they recognized that they needed greater faith to trust God’s ways. The disciples understood that their human frailties and limitations could prevent them from consistently forgiving, so they sought the faith required to fully follow Jesus’ command.

In our own lives, we often echo the disciples' request when it comes to forgiving others—and perhaps even more so, forgiving ourselves. We recognize that it’s our faith in the Lord, not just our own strength, that allows us to walk in forgiveness. He is the author and the finisher of our faith, and we must trust Him to complete the work He began in us. It is our unwavering confidence in God that empowers us to keep growing in grace, even when forgiveness seems difficult.

While we frequently pray for increased faith in areas like healing and miracles, we must also cultivate faith in God to manifest His character within us. God’s forgiveness of us enables us to forgive others. Genuine faith is fueled by love, and sustaining a forgiving spirit requires the conviction that transformation is both possible and ongoing. We grow in this faith as we trust Him to shape our hearts,  from glory to glory!
