Is It Too Familiar?

So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.’ Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief. - Mat. 13:57-58.
In His hometown, Jesus was unable to perform many mighty works because of the people’s unbelief—a result of their familiarity with Him. They thought, “We know Him; He’s the son of Joseph, the carpenter; we know His family…” This familiarity led them to lower their expectations and block their faith.
This same dynamic can still affect us today. Those who know us well may struggle to fully receive the ministry the Lord has given us, just as we might miss the blessings He intends to deliver through others we are familiar with. When we dismiss the possibility of God working through someone close to us, we limit our faith and miss out on what He wants to accomplish.
Our expectation should always be in the Lord, trusting that He can use anyone, anything, and any circumstance to speak to us and work in our lives. We must pray, “Lord, I am seeking You. I believe You will work in my life in unexpected ways, at unexpected times, and through unexpected people—all for Your glory.” With steadfast faith and high expectations, let us remain open to His mighty works, from glory to glory!
