The Birthing of God's Purposes

Then Mary said to the angel, 'How can this be, since I do not know a man?' And the angel answered and said to her, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. - Luke 1:34-35 NKJV

As water breaks when it’s time for a natural birth, so it is for the things of God. An outpouring of the Holy Spirit comes upon us for the birthing of God’s purposes. This was the angel Gabriel's assurance to Mary, faced with the miraculous conception of Jesus. His words, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you,' answer our own questions about the 'hows' of God's workings within us.

After this spiritual 'water breaking,' come the contractions, or birth pangs. Each wave of pain feels like it cannot get any stronger, but it does. Pushing, the last stage of birthing, takes place. We have no strength to push, yet have to; no breath left, yet we breathe harder; great sorrow, yet great joy. When trials and tribulations seem to overwhelm us, the Spirit of God overpowers us.

The Holy Spirit equips us to overcome fear, insecurity, rejection, and any barriers to His perfect plan. He guides us through every push, with love and comfort. Our focus becomes singularly fixed on the Lord, the true orchestrator of this birthing process. All else disappears. As God’s best unfolds before us, we stand in awe, rejoicing, and preparing for the process again, from glory to glory!
