How Can We Discern If It's From God?

He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you. - John 16:14-15

One way to discern if something is of God is to ask ourselves: Does it glorify the Lord? Do we see Jesus reflected in the words or actions? Would He say or do that? Does it show His character and leave us encouraged, exhorted, and edified? If something leaves us feeling oppressed, fearful, or defeated, it is not of God.

We can recognize faith versus fear by detecting the difference between the flesh and the Spirit. Anything that elevates anyone other than Christ is not from God. We must be cautious of words that focus on making us famous or glorifying our own abilities. Personal prophecy may speak to us individually, but its true focus is on who the Lord is and what He will do in and through us. It’s never about how great we are, but always about how great He is.

When we hear something, we should discern by asking: Is it exalting the flesh or God? The enemy seeks to lift up the flesh and feed the ego, but the Holy Spirit always comes to lift up Jesus. As we glorify the Lord, we grow in faith and grace, leading us to worship Him. More of Him is the fruit we seek in every situation, from glory to glory!
